Privacy Policy

KartGarage (“we”, “us”) builds KartGarage, a mobile app that helps kart racers manage their garage, karts, setups, parts, maintenance, shopping lists, and carburettor jetting. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. We designed the app to be local-first and to collect as little as possible.

The short version: there is no account, nothing you create is uploaded to us, and there is no analytics or tracking of any kind. What does leave your device goes only to the service that answers it: coordinates to a weather service when you fetch weather or import a session, the area a map is showing to OpenStreetMap, places to your phone's geocoding service, and purchases to Apple or Google.

This website collects nothing either, with one exception: if you sign up to test the Android app, we keep the details you send us for that test. Section 8 explains.

1. Data stored on your device

All of your content lives locally on your device in the app's database. This includes your karts, setups, parts and warehouse, maintenance tasks, shopping lists, notes, and any photos you add to karts, gear and events. We do not have a user account system, and this content is not uploaded to us or synced to our servers.

Photos taken with the camera or chosen from your photo library are stored only on your device.
Importing sessions straight from a MyChron happens over the logger's own Wi-Fi, which you join in your phone's settings; on iPhone, the app asks for permission to use your local network for it. The app only reads from the logger: it asks for the list of sessions and downloads the ones you pick. It sends the logger nothing about you, never changes anything on it, and none of this goes over the internet. You can revoke the permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Your phone's own backup can include the app's data. On iPhone that is iCloud Backup; on Android it is Google's Auto Backup, which leaves photos out. Those copies are made by Apple or Google under their own terms, not by us, and you can switch them off in your phone's settings.
Deleting the app removes this local data from your device. A phone backup made earlier may keep a copy until it is replaced.

2. Location

If you choose to fetch live weather for a setup, the app requests your device location and uses those coordinates to:

retrieve current weather (temperature, humidity, pressure, conditions) from the Open-Meteo weather service; and
resolve a nearby place or track name using your phone's geocoding service (Apple's on iPhone, Google's on Android), which is also what finds a circuit you search for by name.

When you import a session that has GPS data — from a file or straight from a MyChron — the app sends Open-Meteo the position of the track and the date it was recorded, to look up the weather during that session. This happens on every such import, without a separate tap, and uses the session's own coordinates, not your device location.

Maps in the app, such as track maps and the place picker, are drawn from tiles downloaded from OpenStreetMap's servers. Each request tells OpenStreetMap which area is on screen and, as with any request over the internet, your IP address.

Coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo only to return weather for that place and time and are not stored by us. Your device location is requested only when you tap to fetch weather; the app does not track your location in the background. You can deny or revoke the location permission at any time in your phone's settings.

3. Purchases and subscriptions

KartGarage offers an optional paid subscription (KartGarage Pro). Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit — we do not use any third-party subscription or purchase management service. The app receives standard purchase/transaction information from Apple (such as your subscription status and a StoreKit transaction identifier) to unlock Pro features and to support restoring purchases. If you use KartGarage on Android, purchases are processed by Google Play instead, and we receive the equivalent information from Google.

We do not receive your name, email, or Apple ID from these purchases.
This data is used only to deliver the features you paid for (unlocking Pro) and to restore purchases.

4. What we do NOT do

We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers.
We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
We do not track you across other apps or websites.
We do not sell or rent your data.

5. Third-party services

The app relies on the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Apple (App Store purchases, geocoding, iCloud Backup).
Google (Google Play purchases, geocoding and Android backup, on the Android version).
Open-Meteo (weather data for the coordinates you request and for imported sessions).
OpenStreetMap Foundation (map tiles for the area a map is showing).

6. Children

KartGarage is not directed to children under 13 and is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Data retention and your choices

Because your content is stored on your device, you control it: edit or delete records in the app, revoke the location permission in your phone's settings, or delete the app to remove local data. When you delete something in the app it disappears from every screen at once, but the record stays in the database for 30 days before it is removed for good, and photos go with it; deleting the app removes everything immediately. 8. Signing up to test the Android app

While KartGarage for Android is being tested, this website has a form at kartgarage.net/android for signing up as a tester. It is the only part of the site that collects anything, and only when you send it.

What we keep: the Google account email address you enter and, if you fill them in, your name and your phone model, with the language of the page you signed up on and the time you signed up.
What for: to add you to the closed test on Google Play and to write to you about the test. We do not use it for a newsletter or for marketing, and we never sell it.
Legal basis: your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to us; we then take you out of the test and delete your details.
Who else handles it: Cloudflare, which runs this website, stores the sign-ups and delivers each one to us by email; and Google, because testers are added to a Google Play test by their Google account.
How long we keep it: until the test is over, and then we delete it. Google keeps the tester list in Google Play Console under its own terms until we remove you from it.
Protection against abuse: to stop automated sign-ups, the form limits how often one connection can send it. Your IP address is used for that check and is not stored with your sign-up.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
